This is exactly what I drove to high school every day Senior year, and let me tell you, the adventures that you can have in a car like this are PRICELESS!

I recently purchased this car from the estate of a local gentleman who passed away a few years ago. He was the second owner of this 1963 Roadster, and that is documented. His daughter told me that he only ever took it out to drive to the golf course, and then it was parked in a small barn behind their home in 1988 and never driven again. The car comes with the original Warranty card with the original purchaser’s name and address, and also the original (and mostly unused) service coupon book… Ironically, the car was purchased in New York, NY on October 10th, 1963 – exactly 51 years ago – and the car has 51,000 original miles…

This E-Type is an original red car with a red interior. The originality on this car is excellent – everything is as it should be. Everything is there and in excellent restorable condition.

The children of the previous owner were working with another local Jaguar enthusiast to sell the car. He removed the car from a small barn behind their home, washed it off, and was in the process of getting the car up and running when we purchased the car as you see in the photos. This is why the carbs have been cleaned up, and the fuel pump has been removed from the tank and replaced with a rebuilt original, although it has not yet been installed. He did not finish the work of actually starting the engine, but the car does crank over easily and has good compression. You could have this car running in one afternoon, or just skip that and go straight to restoration, but know that the internal condition of the engine is excellent…

The engine turns over with good compression, and everything under the bonnet is original and correct except for the blue coil and a few replaced hoses. Some bodywork was done in the seam behind the door and above the outer sills. I have also detected a small patch of filler in the very forward edge of the bonnet’s nose itself from a minor bump in the garage or something in its past… These are the ONLY evidence of any filler that I see in the entire car. So you can take comfort in knowing what is under this paint – faded original paint – that’s it…

This E-Type has never been in ANY type of accident. The bonnet is EXCELLENT – NO rust, and only a few small dents, plus the minor repair in the very forward edge of the nose. The doors are also excellent – no rust in the bottom of the doors. Finally, the boot lid is also excellent – no rust, no dents… The bonnet, as well as the boot lid and doors all fit beautifully – the gaps are perfect.

The car is not completely “rust free”, but for an E-Type, it’s close! There is rust in the floors and it should be treated to full floors on both sides, but the inner sills look good and the car still has its original outer sills. The boot floor does have rust and will also need replacement, but the rear lower valances are rust-free. All of the other areas where E-Types typically rust are excellent and rust-free.

You just don't find them like this anymore - don't let this be the only view of this E-Type you get to see! We may also be able to get the original transmission back – I’m working on that.

This shell is rock solid where it really counts - the forward and rear bulkheads are excellent, the roof is perfect, and so is the drive tunnel. We did that because this body shell had roof damage, and the customer wanted a period Webasto sunroof. We now have another body shell for this car - also a Series 2 FHC - with a straight roof. Plus, this car is already disassembled, so you won't have to pay for that work, which is no small task!

This car was purchased as a running project car. The body was very rough, but we did use it for another project. We have since replaced the body, so that the car is complete again, but is now apart and a TOTAL project.

So – the running gear that you see in these photos has all been removed from this yellow body, and the suspension and engine have been re-attached to another Series 2 coupe body. The body that will be supplied with the car also needs extensive metalwork, and can be supplied with as many panels as you like and some additional shell pieces to help you rebuild the body in the rougher areas – namely the forward bulkhead – I will throw in TWO extra forward bulkhead sections… We currently have a MAJOR space issue, and this project needs to find a good home, so call if you are interested – it’s available QUITE reasonably!

Built in November of 1969, this Series 2 coupe represents the ultimate development of the 6-cylinder E-Type 2-seat coupe as a Grand Touring car. By this point, all of the kinks were worked out of the E-Type’s design and assembly – for example, the Series 2 braking system is excellent and often retro-fitted to earlier E-Types.

This car is very well optioned for all-weather driving. You have to start somewhere, and everything is there to build an OTS to any specifications you desire. This shell is rough, but when restored in our shop, it will be one of the most solid E-Type shells in existence!

Built in April of 1970, this Series 2 roadster was originally dark blue with a black interior. This car is an abandoned project that we were able to rescue last year, but unfortunately, not before the original engine and transmission were lost. We then used the shell for another project…

This car is now an example of “parting out” in reverse, as over the past year, we have acquired all of the necessary components to rebuild the car. The car now again has the correct Series 2 4.2-liter engine and wide ratio 4-speed that it was originally dispatched with, and most other components are present. We also have acquired another Series 2 OTS shell with boot lid and doors, and enough solid panels to build a correct Series 2 bonnet. We’ve rounded out the package with a complete Series 2 front and rear suspension and braking system. As a result, this car is now a 98% complete Series 2 OTS project, missing only the hood (convertible top) frame, and a few minor bits.

As a Series 2 roadster with a non-matching engine, this car is an excellent platform for an upgraded E-Type used for spirited back-country driving, track days, or as a full race E-Type. We can even convert the monocoque shell and bonnet to Series 1 specifications if you desire, keep the Series 2 body but add Series 3 flared wings front and rear – the options are limited only by your imagination! This is a complete, numbers-matching E-Type that was originally maroon with a black interior.

The car needs a total restoration, but everything is there, and alot of it still works currently! This engine runs STRONG - with good compression in all cylinders. I think that with a little more tinkering, I could get this to the point where you could drive it around the block. That doesn't accomplish much, but does show that what's here is not all seized up - the odometer shows 46,000 miles, and I believe that is all the wear and tear that these mechanicals have on them. Once the body shell and bonnet are restored, this would be an easy restoration.

Looks are very deceiving on this car – it looks great from 10 feet away, but the body had extensive rust in the past, and was repaired by an amateur restorer who used ALOT of filler over overlapped metal panels. The body shell needs total restoration in our shop, and the bonnet is a total write off – it is unrestorable. That’s the bad news…

The GOOD news is that the car is complete, all of the components are in good condition, and the engine runs STRONG – with good compression in all cylinders. The shell is also bad in the lower areas, but actually quite GOOD in the upper areas – so replacement of the floors, sills, and just about everything else in the lower 10 inches, will result in a rock solid shell when this is completed.

The dashpad is a mess, the carpets are gone, but the important components like gauges, steering wheel, console, etc. are all there and in VERY GOOD condition! Use your imagination to envision this same photo with just a new dashpad and new black carpets, and you can see what I mean when I say this is an easy restoration once the car has a new body shell and bonnet!

This can be a 100-point E-Type. Or, because it already has the Series 2 braking system, it also makes a great platform for a high-performance driver. We can restore the shell and build a Series 2 bonnet in steel that are perfect, or convert the car to Series 1 configuration – whatever you desire!

**********

Even MORE Projects – AVAILABLE!

We have more stuff than what is listed – it seems like there are E-Type parts all over the place! And, good project cars like those above coming and going all the time – give us a ring if you don’t see what you are looking for and we might have something that will work!

The E-Types we have available are “rough” in alot of people’s eyes, but they just don’t have our imagination, experience, and most importantly – our ability to rebuild ANY monocoque body shell – which is what kills most E-Types. I have trained my eyes over the past 25 years to “see” the car differently than most – for example, I don’t even look at the lower 12 inches of the car – I know it is all getting replaced anyway!

We are literally bursting at the seams with E-Type cars and parts! Most of our project cars are shown without bonnets, but believe me, we have them! Any of the project cars above can be fitted with any type of bonnet you desire - Series 1 or 2 - built from original panels that are properly restored. This shot shows most of the center sections we have currently, but all of the inner valances, wings, and lower valances were packed onto pallets and taken over to the warehouse. And we have plenty of parts too - engines, transmissions, chrome, seats - you name it! Whatever vision you have for YOUR E-Type, we can make it happen!

Instead, I look for things like completeness, engines that run or at least turn freely, condition of the non-body components, straight roofs, etc. I stand by my “mantra” that the ONLY way to get a “good” E-Type is to build it yourself, and I tell people all the time – “If you’re going to buy one, either spend $10,000 or $70,000 – anything in between is going to be junk that you end up tearing down to the point of something you could have bought for $10,000 in the first place…”

There are alot of people out there that buy and sell E-Types, part them out, etc. because they know it is one way to make a quick dollar on a previous owner whose health is failing, has hit hard times, or just doesn’t know what their car is worth. It has been going on for decades and it drives me crazy to see 50 “E-Type Wanted in any condition” ads in the back of Hemmings every month…

That’s not what we are about here – we don’t buy and sell E-Types – we BUILD them. I rescue these cars and offer them to see them survive instead of being parted out, and truth be told, also because I’d have 100 E-Types probably if I could! So instead, I indulge my addiction by building great E-Types for other people!

When you purchase one of our projects, we’re ALL in it together. I’ll be building your shell and bonnet myself, and overseeing the rest of the restoration like it is my own car. If you choose to just take the car as a project with a new shell, you get “tech support” for life – ask any question, and if I don’t know the answer, I know who does. In addition, we stay in touch with the previous owner, and keep them up to date on the status of the restoration, which they can follow along with through our blog.

That being said…

E-Type Projects – WANTED!

We are always looking for good “core” body shells and bonnets, but can also find a GOOD home for your wrecked or rusty E-Type!
