{"id":922,"date":"2011-05-19T11:20:35","date_gmt":"2011-05-19T15:20:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/?p=922"},"modified":"2015-02-18T13:28:26","modified_gmt":"2015-02-18T18:28:26","slug":"bonnet-assembly-bonding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/2011\/05\/bonnet-assembly-bonding\/","title":{"rendered":"Bonnet \u2013 Assembly &#038; Bonding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;re working with a bonnet that has never been wrecked, and you are re-using all of the original pieces, assembly can be very straight-forward.\u00a0 Since that&#8217;s almost never true, get ready for an adventure!<\/p>\n<p>Throughout this process, we typically completely assemble the bonnet an average of three times to get everything sorted out.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re doing this work yourself at home, better just resign yourself to multiple attempts &#8211; and up it to 5 or 6&#8230;\u00a0 You want to be ABSOLUTELY SURE everything is right where it should be BEFORE you bond the flanges!\u00a0 Finally, you can&#8217;t over-prepare and over-check things &#8211; preparation is the key in this procedure!<\/p>\n<p>Follow along as we assemble a bonnet that has been wrecked heavily in the past and re-shaped in our shop.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_925\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-925\" href=\"http:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/2011\/05\/bonnet-assembly-bonding\/weldy-assem-02\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-925\" class=\"size-full wp-image-925\" title=\"weldy-assem-02\" src=\"http:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/weldy-assem-02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/weldy-assem-02.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/weldy-assem-02-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/weldy-assem-02-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-925\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">First order of business is to liberally coat the sections that will be enclosed once it is assembled with a quality primer - this may be the only paint some of the nooks and crannies ever see, so get it on there now while you can! This is the area you want to be most concerned with. The photo is misleading because gravity is pulling this down right now - you can just reach in with your hand and pull this up so there is no contact. To play it safe, we&#39;ve kissed this edge down in about the first 3 inches - this will not be seen when assembled, and you DO NOT want this to come into contact with the outer skin AT
