3 E-Type Bonnet Restoration \u2013 Part 3 \u2013 Wings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Next it was time to restore a pair of wings for this bonnet.\u00a0 These wings are a matched pair that we picked up last Fall.\u00a0 They have some issues, but overall, are straight, and the difficult to repair V-12 wheel flares are excellent.<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-2869 Proper stretching and smoothing of the metal in this area will need to be done now.  This is where a repair like this goes off the rails for the home restorer or inexperienced shops &#8211; they don&#8217;t know what causes this, OR how to reverse it, and so they whack away at it for a while and then just fill it with bondo.  OR &#8211; tell the customer &#8220;we tried, but it was too far gone, and you need a new wing (for $1400 that doesn&#8217;t want to play nicely with the rest of your bonnet&#8230;)\n\t\t\t\t<\/dd><\/dl><br style=\"clear: both\" \/><dl class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<dt class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/DSC_0162.jpg'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" src=\"https:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/DSC_0162-1024x680.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large\" alt=\"\" aria-describedby=\"gallery-1-2883\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/DSC_0162-1024x680.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/DSC_0162-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/DSC_0162-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/dt>\n\t\t\t\t<dd class='wp-caption-text gallery-caption' id='gallery-1-2883'>\n\t\t\t\tWhat needs to be done here is proper planishing, so that all shrink caused by the welding is removed, and no additional stretch beyond that is introduced in the process&#8230;  The two holes are where the spot welds for the inner support were drilled out.
