It was built in March of 1968, and originally delivered in Carmen Red with a Black leather interior. This is a FULL matching numbers car &#8211; EVERYTHING is original to this car, and all numbers have been checked.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Color Scheme<\/span> &#8211;\u00a0This is an original Carmen Red coupe with a Black leather interior<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Driveability<\/span> &#8211;\u00a0By the time this E-Type was built in March of 1968, ALL of the kinks in the E-Type design were worked out.\u00a0 This car has the larger displacement 4.2-liter engine, with the reliable alternator charging system.\u00a0 The gearbox is the later full-synchro 4-speed.\u00a0 The braking system has the remote power booster, and the cooling system is the later twin-fan radiator which works MUCH better!\u00a0 Even the seats are the more comfortable 4.2 design &#8211; that fold forward AND recline a bit as well &#8211; allowing more room and comfort for taller drivers.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">History<\/span> &#8211;\u00a0This E-Type was purchased by the previous owner in 1982, and driven daily for about 2 years. It was then taken off the road and stored indoors because of rust where the radius arms meet the floors &#8211; which is VERY typical&#8230; The owner then finally decided to tackle that rust several years later, and spent the Spring and Summer of 1992 very carefully disassembling the car &#8211; labeling, bagging, and even dating the components as they were removed. Then life got in the way, and the car just sat in his very clean and dry garage while he raised his family and got involved with racing other cars&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_1137.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-14444\" src=\"https:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_1137-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_1137-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_1137-150x113.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_1137-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_1137-768x576.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Mechanical Condition<\/span> &#8211;\u00a0The overall condition of the components is very good to excellent \u2013 with only 57,869 original miles.\u00a0 The engine spins free and very smoothly by hand &#8211; and this was a running and driving car when it was disassembled!\u00a0 The gearbox also spins freely and shifts into all gears.\u00a0 The car rolls freely with no seized brake calipers, and on and on it goes!\u00a0 Every nut and bolt that we worked with was free with good threads &#8211; that were still shiny!\u00a0 I can&#8217;t stress enough &#8211; the condition of ALL of the components is GREAT!\u00a0 It will be a real pleasure to work on this one &#8211; and it&#8217;s pretty clean too!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Cosmetic Condition<\/span> &#8211;\u00a0Components like the gauges, dash panels, radio console, etc. are in excellent condition and don&#8217;t even need to be restored &#8211; just cleaned!\u00a0 The interior itself is still in good condition, and COULD be carefully cleaned and &#8220;restored&#8221; and then re-used for an interior with a nice original patina.\u00a0 The original leather seats are not torn, and only have some minimal fraying of the sewn seams &#8211; these seats could be restored with excellent results!\u00a0 The chrome is all present and in good restorable condition.\u00a0 3 of the 4 bumper blades are good and just need rechroming &#8211; the RH front blade has been dented a bit and COULD be repaired by a good chrome shop as well.\u00a0 The rest of the chrome is in excellent original condition, and the oxidation on it can be cleaned off with minimal pitting remaining.\u00a0 I would personally clean and use ALL of the chrome (aside from the bumpers) as-is &#8211; it&#8217;s THAT good!\u00a0 Finally, all of the glass is also excellent!\u00a0 The side windows and quarter windows are all original Triplex clear glass.\u00a0 The rear hatch glass is original Triplex &#8220;Sundym&#8221; light green tint &#8211; and is HEATED!\u00a0 The windshield is a replacement clear windshield &#8211; it is also excellent with no major scratches &#8211; and fits beautifully.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_1140.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-14446\" src=\"https:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_1140-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_1140-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_1140-150x113.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_1140-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.monocoque-metalworks.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_1140-768x576.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Body Condition<\/span> &#8211;\u00a0Overall, the body shell and bonnet of this E-Type is MUCH better than typical.\u00a0 There is rust in the outer and rear edges of the floors, and in the lower portions of the inner sills.\u00a0 It is all what I would call &#8220;textbook&#8221; E-Type rust, but to a much lesser degree than we usually see &#8211; it has not progressed into the front or rear bulkheads, which are excellent.\u00a0 There is also rust in the boot floor, and there have been previous repairs in the rear wheel arches before the one respray that is on the car.\u00a0 The doors appear to be in very good condition, and fit almost perfectly &#8211; the RH door IS a perfect fit, the LH door is very close, and only suffers from play in the door hinge itself.\u00a0 The bonnet has had some dents and dings in the past that have been repaired and filled, but nothing appears to have been catastrophic damage, and the overall shape is very good. It does not have any rust to speak of other than the hinge mounting points, which were rusted away &#8211; also very typical.\u00a0 We have repaired this just to get the bonnet on the car &#8211; I suggest replacement of the bonnet support member piece &#8211; which we can provide.\u00a0 Otherwise, I do not believe you will need any additional replacement panels for the bonnet.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Series 1 Conversion<\/span> &#8211;\u00a0Many customers choose to &#8220;backdate&#8221; Series 1.5 E-Types to Series 1 specs&#8230; The ONLY differences between this car and a 1967 Series 1 FHC are the open headlamps, 2 vs. 3 carburetors, cam cover design, and the interior rocker switches plus a few other interior details.
