Our panels are made with EXPERT CRAFTSMANSHIP!<\/span><\/strong> Monocoque Metalworks was born out of a lifelong fascination with the E-Type\u00a0 body shell, but also a frustration with the panels currently available.\u00a0 After several years of finding, restoring, and re-tooling the machines necessary for this work, fabricating panels that are not absolutely perfect is simply not an option.\u00a0 For example, we use razor-sharp shears instead of nibblers, producing dead-straight, crisp edges that you have to see to believe!\u00a0 We also constantly tune our machines so that all bends, cuts, and holes are as crisp as the original panels.\u00a0 All holes are the correct shape and size, and are located EXACTLY where they belong.\u00a0 And, all sub-assemblies are spot-welded with vintage, high-quality equipment that exactly reproduces the original spot-welds, and is constantly checked for the proper penetration.\u00a0 We form it right – every single time. <\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Our panels are MORE ACCURATE!<\/strong><\/span> Many panels currently available on the market are simply incorrect.\u00a0 While they are usually \u2018close enough\u2019, small details like the incorrect metal gauges and dimensions often cause problems later.\u00a0 One example of this is the battery J-hook bracket on the LH forward sill closing panel.\u00a0 The original is \u00bd\u201d high and formed from 16-gauge steel, and so is ours.\u00a0 Other manufacturers of panels makes this bracket from thinner 20-gauge steel and only \u00bc\u201d wide, and after the tub is restored and painted, you discover the battery can\u2019t be mounted\u2026 <\/span><\/p>\n

Our panels arrive READY TO INSTALL!<\/span><\/strong> Because our company is small and many panels are made to order, and because our panels don\u2019t spend months in a shipping container coming from overseas, we can ship our panels in bare steel.\u00a0 Other manufacturers coat their panels in a very low-quality, black \u201cshipping primer\u201d that most restorers have learned the hard way MUST by stripped before applying quality primers and paints \u2013 not to mention the abundance of stickers…\u00a0 This is very time consuming and messy.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We make the panels that you can’t get ANYWHERE ELSE! <\/span><\/strong>We have patterns and examples of nearly every E-Type panel – our shop is literally bursting at the seams with original panels and sections of E-Type shells.\u00a0 As a result, unlike large suppliers that can only sell you what is on the shelf, we can fabricate whatever obscure panel you need!\u00a0 We can also create only a portion of the panel if it makes more sense for your car – our partial boot floor is\u00a0one example.<\/p>\n

Our panels are PERFECT, but THEY DON\u2019T HAVE TO BE!<\/span><\/strong> We make our panels identical to the original pieces, but we can also make the panel any way you like!\u00a0 We can make the panel from a thicker gauge of steel if you prefer, or even in aluminum!\u00a0 We can eliminate some original factory holes, re-locate them, re-size them, or make them oblong for adjustment \u2013 whatever you need!<\/p>\n

A perfect pair of 3.8 E-Type Mudshields – in ALUMINUM! These weigh less than half the original, and were custom fabricated for a vintage racer. Incidentally, the cost for this pair was less than the steel version from Martin Robey.<\/p><\/div>\n

Our panels are NEVER BACK-ORDERED!<\/span><\/strong> If you haven\u2019t experienced this nightmare yet, consider yourself one of the lucky ones.\u00a0 A large order of panels placed with one of the \u201cother\u201d suppliers often results in you receiving somewhere between 50-80% of what you need \u2013 and you usually can\u2019t assemble ANY of it until you have ALL of it.\u00a0 What are you going to do with a LH floor, LH outer sill, all the gussets, and a back-ordered LH inner sill? \u2013 Nothing \u2013 except sit around frustrated while you wait 6 weeks for it to finally show up\u2026\u00a0 At Monocoque Metalworks, while we may not have absolutely everything on the shelf when you call, it\u2019s all made right here, so your panels are never more than a few days away!<\/p>\n

Our panels are NEVER DAMAGED IN SHIPPING!<\/span><\/strong> OK, that\u2019s not entirely true, but if they are, we ship you new ones immediately, free of charge!\u00a0 I spent several years of my youth packing, unpacking, and shipping E-Type panels every day after school.\u00a0 I know what happens to them in shipping, how they get damaged, and how to prevent it.\u00a0 I also know the physical pain you feel when you open a box to find a brand new outer sill or a boot floor that\u2019s been bent in half during the journey.\u00a0 I will either prevent you from ever feeling that pain, or quickly erase it.\u00a0 One thing you\u2019ll NEVER hear is, \u201cSorry, you\u2019ll have to put in a claim with the shipper\u2026\u201d\u00a0 You probably WILL hear some colorful descriptions of the shipper, followed by, \u201cOK, I\u2019m very sorry, throw them in a recycle bin, and stand by for some replacements.\u201d<\/p>\n

WE KNOW WHAT WE\u2019RE TALKING ABOUT!<\/strong> <\/span>We have ONE customer service rep \u2013 me, Chuck.\u00a0 When you call to place an order or with questions, you won\u2019t be talking to an order-taker who\u2019s never even sat in an E-Type.\u00a0 Instead, you\u2019ll speak with me directly, and I\u2019m usually in the shop surrounded by E-Type shells during the conversation.\u00a0 I\u2019ll help you with enthusiasm and an intimate knowledge of E-Types – you won\u2019t have to spend hours deciphering the picture-less, error-filled websites of the big parts houses that have a mind-numbing amount of errors on them with part numbers, etc.\u00a0 Just call up and tell me what you need and we\u2019ll form it up! \u00a0Replace, \u201cI\u2019m sorry, sir, I need the part number\u201d with \u201cYup, I know exactly what you\u2019re talking about.\u00a0 I\u2019ll form them up and send you a photo of the completed panels later today to be certain.\u00a0 Thank You \u2013 I appreciate your business!\u201d<\/p>\n

Here is another MM specialty… This is a rear wheel arch reapir panel for 6-cylinder E-Type coupes – which rust out here because they have an inner wheelwell positioned closely behind this piece – unlike the roadsters. The “other guys” version of this panel is FLAT – a.k.a. USELESS! Ours is properly arched in all directions, and the edge is crisp and correct, unlike their obviously hand-hammered, soft edge…<\/p><\/div>\n

Here’s yet another piece thatwe are the only source for. This is the forward section of the rear wing on 6-cylinder E-Types. This commonly rusts away when the B-post rusts from the inside-out.<\/p><\/div>\n

We are also the only source for these – worldwide. After making them, I know why – that double-folded edge at the top is EXACT, and REAL TRICKY to form up! These are for 3.8 E-Types, but we can make the 4.2 version as well, which has recessed side panels. Look in the “E-Type Panel Fabrication” section of our blogs to see details of the construction of these E-Type Center Consoles!<\/p><\/div>\n

This is a section of the rear inner wheel well. This is the inner support just under the rear lower valance, and just under the tip of the rear bumper blade – ALWAYS rusts out…<\/p><\/div>\n
