1970 Jaguar E-Type FHC Project – SOLD!

1970 E-Type Fixed-Head Coupe – SOLD!

She’s SOLD – and once again, headed back to where she was born – the UK.  Thank you for your purchase, Julian – MUCH appreciated!

We recently acquired this 1970, Series 2, E-Type Fixed-Head Coupe, and it is a great candidate for restoration!  I have included some photos below – as it looked before it was disassembled, and as it looks today as a disassembled project car.  In addition, here is a link to an Internet photo album that contains 85 photos showing the condition of the project and all components.

All Original and Highly Refined! – The car comes complete with ALL of it’s original components, and IS a matching numbers E-Type.  It was originally delivered with a “sable” (brown) exterior, and a “saddle” (tan) interior. This is a factory air-conditioned car, with manual rack-and-pinion steering.  As a late Series 2 coupe, it is the ultimate refinement of the 6-cylinder E-Type, incorporating a full-synchro gearbox, a racing-quality braking system, improved engine cooling, and more!  It also includes refinements such as air-conditioning, comfortable seats, and inner and outer armrests.  Finally, this E-Type even incorporates safety improvements like a collapsible steering column, shoulder seat belts, and headrests!  By the time this E-Type was built in the Fall of 1970, ALL of the kinks had been ironed out, and these cars are a pleasure to drive!

Solid and Straight Body and Bonnet! – The condition of the monocoque body shell and bonnet is QUITE good – and it has never been in a major accident.  The body shell has been stripped to bare metal, and you are seeing it in bare metal in the photos at the link above – there is NOTHING to hide!  One front floor has been replaced, and a new boot floor has been installed.  There is light surface rust on the interior panels, etc., and some sloppy rustproofing, plus the outside was sprayed in a cheap primer about 25 years ago.  The car has been indoors all of that time, but this all needs to come off…  SO – I would recommend a light blasting back to bare metal and re-coating with a good 2-part epoxy primer.

The remaining metalwork to be done looks to be limited to the repair of the lower portion of the LH inner sill, and replacement of both outer sills.  The doors and rear hatch door are EXCELLENT – they are straight and rust free!  The bonnet needs a new lower valance (most E-Types do…), but after that, it is an easy restoration, with only a few minor dents in the nose of the center section, and EXCELLENT wings.  Overall, this is a VERY easy body restoration as E-types go – take another look at the condition of the doors – I think that says it all!

Good Condition of components – was running and driving when disassembled. – The first few photos were taken of the car before it was disassembled – and while still in its original paint.  As you can see, the car was straight and had never been in a major accident, and aside from one minor repair to the bonnet, was never repainted.  The previous owners have assured me that the car was running and driving well, and the original intention was to repair some minor rust issues and re-paint the car, but that in order to do a high-quality paint job and color change, the car was completely disassembled, and then never finished.  It is POSSIBLE that you could change the fluids and fire this engine right up, but you should plan on doing some engine work, if not a total refresh…

All new rubber, new steering wheel, and a COMPLETE NEW Interior Kit! – This project essentially comes with TWO complete interiors!  The original Cinnamon (tan) interior was in EXCELLENT original condition, and could be carefully cleaned and a few minor issues repaired, and reused with its original patina.  BUT – the car also comes with a complete, new BLACK interior kit – that includes all interior trim, carpets, hardura, fiber backing, complete seats with headrests and new foam and diaphragms.  There is also a complete rubber seal kit, and a brand new steering wheel.  The value of these new parts are in excess of $5,000 USD.

Additional Information:

  • This E-Type was a running and driving car before it was disassembled, and has been stored indoors for the past 20+ years – the project is 100% complete (some items are not shown in the photos but they are ALL there!), and the condition of the components is excellent!
  • It has a clear US title, and will be re-assembled and packed for easy transport within the US or overseas.  We have experience with overseas shipment, and can help you make the process hassle-free.
  • It is a complete, original, numbers-matching E-Type – a 1971 Series 2 Fixed-Head Coupe (a 2-seat coupe, NOT a 2+2…), with a 4.2-liter 6-cylinder engine, and a full-synchro, 4-speed manual transmission.  It was also delivered from the factory with air-conditioning.
  • The original color scheme appears to have been Sable exterior (brown) with a Cinnamon (tan) interior.
  • Purchasing an E-Type project car from Monocoque Metalworks entitles you to 24×7 technical support for life!  This sounds like a small point now, but trust me, it will prove to be an invaluable asset throughout your restoration – and I’m happy to do it – call or write ANYTIME!

Call or write if interested, but… DON’T WAIT! – We are busy with a move to a new shop, and space is at a premium around here, so this one is “priced to sell”!!!  With a straight, solid body that needs little work to complete, matching numbers, the excellent condition of the components, an engine that should need little machine work (if any), and a new interior – this is an EASY restoration that will be inexpensive and move along quickly!  It’s a great E-Type project at a fraction of some of the high prices we are currently seeing in the current market…

Don’t miss it – good ones like this go FAST! – Chuck
