Hershey 2014 – The Flea Market

Hershey was great this year – the weather was PERFECT!!!

I went to Hershey on Wednesday and Thursday this year – it feels like it was yesterday, but it was actually 2 weeks ago – time flies when you’re having fun building E-Types I guess!

You might be asking yourself, “How is it that a guy who claims to be SO busy has time to go wander around at Hershey?…”  Good question – for your average guy, but you have to understand that for me, “the world stops for Hershey”…

By my 4th year of college – 1992, we were doing Hershey HARD CORE – going up on Tuesday night and coming back on Sunday morning.  We stayed right on the Flea market field (the old BLUE field!) in our “Hershey Trailer” – a 14-foot 1969 Shasta, complete with the little wings on it.  Well, this particular year, I was busy trying to get college back on track and get out of there (which took 5 years…), and I was taking “Finite Math” as part of a requirement for a business degree.  I hated this class – I was a math wizard as a kid, but this was stupid – matrices and factorial and weird shit you are NEVER going to use…  And I hated the professor more – he was areal jerk, and so I did seriously consider killing him when he simply WOULD NOT allow me to take a test early or late that was scheduled at 11 AM on Thursday of HERSHEY WEEKEND!!

By the time I finally got to Hershey late Thursday afternoon, there was hardly much left, and I felt rushed the whole time.  I swore then that I would NEVER let anything interfere with Hershey again, and I never did…

These days, I commute to Hershey from my home 70 miles south.  It is a beautiful drive through Amish country in Strasburg and Lancaster, PA, and I left the house on Wednesday AM at 5:45 AM.

The moon was out and very bright through some light clouds, and it did catch my eye.  Then, driving through the neighborhood, I saw a guy standing out in his yard staring at the moon.  I took another look and, Oh My God – it’s an eclipse!  I spent the next hour driving up to Hershey watching the eclipse out the driver’s window, and it was INCREDIBLE – finally turning into what they call the “blood moon” just before dawn!

What a great way to start the day – I’ll never forget that.  As you can see, the weather was great on day 1, and I pounded the Flea market fields all the way until the sun set.

Sorry I don’t have time for captions, but the photos pretty much speak for themselves.  On some of the more picturesque, wide angle shots of the sidewalks, Hershey high school on the hill, etc. – just keep in mind that these are perfect photos of what Heaven looks like to me…

Hershey is an annual rite-of-passage for me, and I spend alot of time while wandering around looking at junk just reflecting over the past year, or years…  There have been times that, while I was at Hershey, my life was crumbling around me and I was there as more of an escape than anything else.  What I came up with this year is that life is good, and I’m living the life of my dreams.  Getting this business going was the hardest thing I have ever done, but it is going well and I’m very happy – I made it to the promised land.  Wow – I’m actually getting a little choked up here – it happens…

Thank You SO MUCH for your business and your support – I couldn’t do this without you! – Chuck
